I wrote about the fascist party that's taking power, the deepest natural laws that they oppose, the ways that this opposition renders them fundamentally, illegitimate no matter what power they hold, and what that means for all of us.

When an illegitimate party takes power, they remain illegitimate all the same.

Summary:
It’s confirmed Assad left Syria and is currently in Tehran.
It’s reported his family is with him.
It’s *possible* Assad is in Iran to prepare a counter offensive. Multiple data points suggest that’s unlikely, but it’s not impossible.

A significant problem for Democrats is the asymmetric decorum they practice: They meekly criticize Republican corruption when campaigning, and never call them out when governing. Conversely Rs constantly demonize Ds (and most often lie unabashedly in order to do so).
Democrats’ indifference to sunlight and accountability is why almost nobody knows about the impeachable Trump conduct that seeded the Hunter Biden investigation, and thus why it all came to a head with the pardon. Mystifyingly, they seem to remain indifferent.
Biden Owes The Country More Than One YOLO Power Play
If he pardoned Hunter to save him from real danger, he should break more norms to protect Donald Trump's other enemies—and the country.

The final House results have now landed as 220-215 for the GOP. That means the House majority came down to the 3 NC seats the GOP flipped thanks to its brand new gerrymander.
And that gerrymander hinged on NC's supreme court flipping in 2022.

So it turns out Joe Biden can use his vast power in norms-defying ways to oppose Republican intentions when he wants to.

Man this stuff is disgusting.
Another self-identifying “centrist” not just falling in line, but actively cheerleading the destruction of state capacity in service of an extremist agenda that has absolutely nothing to do with serious government reform… Just disgusting.

It's funny because when Republicans rail against "regulations," they're actually saying that they don't want to follow rules. They've been the anti-rule-of-law party since Reagan. Regulations protect us & the environment. Rules are great! It's weird folks think differently.

IMO, consumers often just want their cake and eat it too. They want cheap clothes without the yucky suspicion that someone was exploited on the other end. Many make up totally fantastical ideas about automated manufacturing to justify cheap t-shirt, but reality is often yucky.

The New Deal actually offers a model here. Its architects saw democracy and prosperity as intricately intertwined and, moreover, knew they had to *promote* the idea that they were connected.
the challenge is building out an alternative cultural story that connects prosperity to solidarity and democracy. that *convinces* people that you can be a success without climbing over others. i don’t know where that will come from! i think it is something that you’ll ultimately have to find.

An example of how words have no meaning:
Ohio voters replaced Sherrod Brown with a car dealer chain owner and blockchain investor with numerous wage theft complaints against him and $100+ million in wealth.
No way to spin that as a rebellion against elites unless you define it out of existnece

but “voters revolted against elites” DOES NOT MAKE SENSE unless we are using bespoke definitions of “elite”

This narrative that the Democrats ignored the working class is really aggravating. Be specific. You’re talking about the white working class because the Black working class understood the stakes of this election just fine.
