Homicide rates are down across the country (including DC) because of historic investments in Community Violence Intervention.

And yet… Trump slashed over 800 million in grants to CVI and law enforcement.

If he actually cared about safety, he would restore funding not send in the national guard.

There’s still a lot we don’t know, but our country’s mental health and firearm laws definitely need work.

In CA, we’re more protected than most, passing laws that prohibit folks with mental health concerns sooner.

Our neighboring states to our east undercut our safety by having weak firearm laws.
The perpetrator of the July 28 mass shooting that killed four people, including a police officer, in a Midtown Manhattan office building had twice been hospitalized for mental health reasons. He was still able to get a gun.
The NYC Shooter Had a Documented Mental Health History. How Did He Get a Gun?
The July 28 mass shooting highlights a gap in the law that has allowed shooters to keep their gun rights after hospitalization for a mental health crisis.

I feel this. I’m not an all caps kind of dude, but man do I feel every capital letter in my STOP texts.

For my non-political junkies friends, it does actual damage.

The funny thing? Running a well-msged campaign of ideas is more effective at driving $$ to a candidate.

Dangerous decision yesterday. Getting a fast background check when buying ammo is not controversial.

Its a short checkpoint ensuring people breaking law — DV abusers being a prime example — don't get access to ammo.
Yesterday, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals struck down California’s law requiring background checks to purchase ammunition.

This safeguard prevents criminals from illegally buying ammo. Without it, CA communities will be at increased risk. CA must fight this dangerous decision.

She had the power to stop this disaster. She chose not to because the leader insisted.

Trump trying to **shiny object** his supporters away from the Epstein files.

Unhinged, disgusting, and sadly unsurprising.

A selfish, pathetic man caring more about revenge and himself than the country.
REPORTER: Gabbard has submitted a criminal referral. Who should the DOJ target?

TRUMP: It would be President Obama. And Biden was there with him ... the leader of the gang was Obama. Barack Hussein Obama. He's guilty. This is treason.

Trump’s America: Arresting veterans just trying to go work.
ICE grabbed this U.S. citizen army veteran & held him for 3 days for no reason whatsoever other than he’s Latino. We must put an end to this racist police state.

Wonky policy and dogs … A+ reporting here.
One of the state’s best investigators was on the hunt for golden mussels — a dangerous new invader in CA's waters. Wearing a collar and a tongue-lolling grin, Allee, a Belgian Malinois, sniffed along the glittering hull of a bass boat buff.ly/tvURReY

This. The cruelty of the Big Ugly Betrayal. The Trump Admin is undoing our progress.
Trump’s cuts to Medicaid and SNAP won’t just strip millions of Americans of their healthcare and access to critical resources — it will increase gun violence and make our communities less safe.
Trump’s Cuts to Medicaid Will Increase Gun Violence
Trump's Big Beautiful Bill will cut Medicaid and SNAP, in turn increasing gun violence rates in communities across the country.

CVI works.

Masked goons kidnapping folks not so much.
Homicides are at a 60 year low in LA, but masked kidnappings of hard working community members are at an all time high.

The only gang committing real crimes in our streets is ICE.

BREAKING — The court just upheld New York’s landmark law allowing gun companies to be held accountable when they break laws that fuel deadly shootings. We’re proud to have supported this case, and will always work to protect public safety.

Tucked away in the big ugly bill is a provision that makes it easier to get silencers.

When combined with the firing of gov’t researchers tracking gun violence, the cutting of public safety $$$ and ATF gun dealer inspectors, it is clear: the GOP’s solution to gun violence is to silence attention.

This is huge! California Dems delivering on affordability.
I just enacted the most game-changing housing reforms in recent California history.

We're urgently embracing an abundance agenda by tearing down the barriers that have delayed new affordable housing and infrastructure for decades.

Let’s get building, California.

Today California leaders delivered a massive victory on housing supply.

Meanwhile Republican Senators are voting to cut Medicaid & SNAP & give to tax cuts billionaires.

I’m struck by the split screen. California leaders listening & delivering to everyday Americans. R’s forging on in spite of them.
The days of affordable housing and infrastructure in California being blocked by endless delays are finally over.

I just signed a historic package of laws that simplifies building, cuts timelines, and will help make it more affordable to live in the greatest state in America.

Political assassinations cannot be tolerated.

We cannot become so partisan as to neglect our leader’s humanity.

Proud to work for GIFFORDS, who fights every day against the gun industry to prevent these terrible tragedies.

Melissa and Mark Hortman should be here today.
One week ago, Melissa Hortman and her husband were taken from us in a horrific act of political violence.

Political violence is never justified. Armed extremism is a threat to democracy.

Honor Melissa by rejecting division—and choosing courage.
