Why are some people more prone to colds than others? In the same household of generally healthy adults, one gets sick at the drop of a hat, the other goes years without a sniffle. Can cold-prone people improve their lot, or is all immune boosting quackery?

I love the Daniel Burnham quote on this. People need something to fight for, and our political imagination affects our actions which affect our world in a virtuous cycle.

one of my longstanding takes is that car manufacturers should be forced to install mandatory speed limiters in every new vehicle and people react to that like I'm advocating to strip them of their right to free speech

I respect all your journalistic chops but it often feels like “having worked a retail job” is your rarest and most valuable credential compared to these clowns.

As an east coaster it’s got to be the Chesapeake Bay impact crater. It sent a mega tsunami all the way to the blue ridge mountains!

@kaine.senate.gov why are you helping confirm bad judges? Virginians repudiated the Republican Party this last Election Day, but you keep advancing Trump’s agenda. If you won’t fight for Virginians we’ll primary you and elect someone who will.

I heard she was entangled in tagged crab fishing gear. Are there ever repercussions for fishermen whose gear causes something like this?

My grandmother hates bluejays and has an elaborate rope and pulley system so she can shake them off her feeder.

Is there any way to send the helpers coffee or sandwiches or something, like how you could send ten bucks to pizza to the polls? Coffee to the cetaceans?

Thanks so much! HFMD is often going around in my area, so I’m happy to have some facts to share when it comes up with my parenting friends.

Ooh, I have questions about hand food mouth disease. Once someone has had it, how long does immunity last? Does immunity from one virus that causes it protect against the other viruses that can cause it? Does it always clear, or does it ever stick around and cause recurring blisters?

There’s an old tumblr post about this phenomenon that goes “where do I see myself in five years? Replying to multi paragraph emails with ‘thanks! Sent from my iPhone’”

You’re thinking of the Sherlock Holmes story the Adventure of Silver Blaze, where the “curious incident of the dog in the nighttime” is that the guard dog didn’t bark because he knew the killer.

It’s ridiculous that I, your constituent, have to yell at you on Bluesky because your voicemail is off after hours. I guess you’re a coward when it comes to facing Virginians as well as republicans.

If you’re so confident Rs will vote to extend the ACA, then it should be no problem for them to extend it to end the shutdown. You’re a rube and a coward for caving less than a week after Virginia voters overwhelmingly rejected republican politicians, and I can’t wait to see you primaried.
