Odd to find the BBC in trouble for left-wing bias and anti-Israel bias. I was thinking for a while that it should be in trouble for right-wing bias and for pro-Israel bias.

She's wrong. The government needs money. Raising income tax, but preferably not on lower incomes, is the best way of getting it. If this is a problem for the Labour party because of foolish past promises, then tough. They have only themselves to blame.

When Scotland introduced a slightly more progressive income tax system some high earners threatened to move to England. If any did they must now be wondering if they were a bit hasty.

I'll say one thing for the Supreme Court judgment in FWS. It must have caused a lot of conscientious legal advisers to go back to the Equality Act 2010 and ask when it is even lawful, let alone sensible, to provide sex-segregated facilities when good gender neutral ones could easily be provided.

Better late than never. She should raise income tax - not a perfect tax but the fairest and most productive we have and it could easily be made even fairer. It was a terrible mistake to ever rule this out.

The EHRC is being disingenuous. It was the nature and slant of some passages in their draft guidance which was liable to have a harmful, costly and unwanted impact on businesses and other service providers. Better guidance would not have the same impact.
Ministers working 'at pace' to publish new trans guidance after reported delays
Some reports suggested statutory guidance on trans people's use of single-sex spaces could be delayed as much as a year after more assessments were requested.

The EHRC in its Grounds of Defence of its Interim Update argues that it did not give advice on when it is unlawful to discriminate on the ground of sex or gender reassignment. See eg para 89. Strange defence. Is that not precisely the kind of advice which would be useful? tbc

The ECHR in its Interim Update gave a misleading account of the effect of the Workplace etc Regs 1992. It was later corrected.
It is amusing to see this described in their recent Grounds of Defence as adding "detail to a high-level single-sentence description".

A clear statement from the co-leader of the Scottish Greens on their continued support for Scottish independence. She is right about the burdensome constraints of the present system. A notable example was Alister Jack's blocking of the GRR Bill passed by the Scottish Parliament.

The EHRC's grounds of defence are more tolerant of gender neutral facilities than the draft code and so less discriminatory in substance. The question arises "If this is your position why did you not say so clearly in your draft code?"

Watching the days tick down until the chair of the EHRC demits office is like watching the minutes tick down at the end of certain football matches. She has already been given about 526 thousand minutes of extra time but it is running down. No own goals from the government please.

It should appeal to the "take back control" brigade but, if handled well, could appeal to others too. Much to be said for a friendly relationship on a sounder, more respectful, basis.

Good responses by Zack Polanski on BBC 1. I like his principled approach. He's prepared to say clearly what a lot of people are thinking but are reluctant to say out loud. A bit like Nigel Farage really, but in the other direction. The more centrist parties had better watch out.
