Biden was a decent president but an AWFUL communicator at a time when our democracy desperately needed insight into how government worked. The biggest error of his administration, apart from inadequately fortifying our institutions, was not recognizing this weakness and finding ways to address it.
People don't know jackshit about anything. To them, Joe Biden sat around for 4 years doing nothing about the economy and kept hitting a "make shit more expensive" button just because he thought it was funny.
Utterly bizarre to describe climate change policy as some kind of radical-left albatross.

The IRA contained precisely the kind of 'kitchen table' programs everyone says Democrats should focus on — and they're popular!

The problem was that Americans *didn't know* what the IRA was or who passed it.

Kid3 is going to another city for a mock trial tournament with her college team this weekend. Just found out that the hotel they are using is housing an ICE team. She’s got her passport card, which establishes she’s a citizen (since adoption, by law). Hope that’s enough. Fuck ICE scum.

I have kind of thought the "No Kings" branding was a bit lame and centrist. It took me back to Hamilton. But that whole vibe makes it absolutely wilder to watch the right melt down over it.

TIL: There’s indeed a way to approximate having private WIP branches in public git repos.

Private Branches in Public Repos
Today I learned that you can approximate the ability to have private branches in a public GitHub repo by creating a private “fork” and making use of multiple remotes.

1. Anti-trans outrage is losing its bite.

Last week, Elon Musk led a mass boycott campaign to get trans characters removed from shows on the platform.

Major conservatives joined in.

Now, we have the result: the boycott was a fizzle, and Netflix stock is up.

Netflix Stock Up As Elon Musk's Anti-Trans Boycott Fails To Materialize
Last week, conservatives tried to cancel Netflix to force the carrier to remove transgender characters.

Literally last week every MAGA idiot around was insisting, loudly, how terrible it was that the Biden admin pressured YouTube to remove COVID misinfo, even as YouTube said it ignored the pressure. Those same folks will either be silent or cheer this on:
This was done at the direction of Pam Bondi. The US government is now dictating what apps you can have on your phone.

The underlying threat here is if Apple didn't comply, they'd slap billions in tariffs on Apple products.

Ironically, the only people who actually seem to be “celebrating” Charlie Kirk’s death are MAGA zealots who can barely contain their giddiness at the prospect of waving his corpse around as a pretext to crack down on liberal civil society groups that had nothing to do with the murder.

A grim reminder: these people will never be satisfied. There’s no point at which they will say “we’ve won, let’s enjoy life.” They will always be looking for someone else to punish, to revile, to dehumanize. They’re empty without that.

Political violence disproportionately hurts people with less power, not people with more power. Political violence will disproportionately hurt people of color and women and LGBTQ people. It’s not fair, but that’s the way it works. Celebrating political violence means at best indifference to that.
Political violence is bad. It usually begets more political violence.

Celebrating political violence is bad. It usually encourages more political violence, against various targets.

Campus shootings are bad. They make everyone on campus less safe.

It's bad that what I wrote here is controversial.

And America shrugged and moved on.

And approval is only that high because the poll questions bend over backward to be “fair” to Trump. Which means including the ludicrous pretext that the aim is “fighting crime” and omittiny the fact that the deployment is overwhelmingly opposed by the local populations.
Perceptions of the popularity of anything Trump does are extremely warped among the chattering classes. A lot of people seem to have convinced themselves that deploying troops to American cities is hugely popular. It has like 58% disapproval!
It's incredibly weird that folks have convinced themselves that the Covid vaccines - which had an ~82^% take up rate - were unpopular.

All kidding about this nonsense answer aside: The regime is asserting the power to murder without trial a boat full of people suspected of drug trafficking, who easily could have been intercepted and arrested instead. That is unconscionable and horrifying even assuming everyone aboard was guilty.

JD VANCE: The legal authority is there are people who are bringing -- literal terrorists -- who are bringing deadly drugs into our country
