what's crazy is that I REMEMBER when this happened and it came out and I REMEMBER putting E33 on my do not play list. And then I just entirely forgot about it. And everyone I knew was playing it and enjoying it, so I did as well. And that's how easy it is to just memory-hole and change narratives
and Clair Obscur, I cannot stress enough, was NOT using AI "accidentally" or "as part of asset packs they weren't informed were AI", it was a conscious choice and they deserve the same scrutiny Larian is getting

I don't understand the point of concept artists "using AI the same way they use photos". Why have an AI generate an image of something that may very well be inaccurate and base your concept art on that rather than just searching for photos on what you're looking for?

I kind of think the linguistic techniques ESL writers use to convey their ideas in an unfamiliar language are beautiful and fascinating if preserved, in a way that would be completely absent if a robot did it for them

i think the crazy thing about games using AI to write placeholder text is that then you cannot search/skim the text for 'placeholder' or 'lorem' to find and resolve the missing asset since it's written as normal dialogue, so they will, inevitably (or intentionally) slip through

The way I know that a lot of people don't actually care about the use of gen AI in art is that Clair Obscur used gen AI for placeholder assets and the game is still being lauded. Like Rebekah said, either the placeholder matters or it doesn't. Using gen AI for placeholder assets isn't excusable
"placeholder text" "concept art" either the temporary thing you put in matters to the process, in which case you need to get a human to work on it, or it doesn't, in which case you can just as easily put a bright pink rectangle that says PLACEHOLDER in and save everyone time and effort
