Real leadership for women isn’t about suddenly claiming the mic when it suits you. It’s about who you stood alongside when it was hard, who you made room for when you had power, and whether you used your influence when it counted, and not just when you want to hoard power.

yes in this case Ray Chung seems to have tripped over some clown shoes straight into a trough of horse manure but the internet's weird men have found a lot of success doling out a heady mix of abuse and defamatory rumour, and our media has too often been complicit thespinoff.co.nz/politics/15-...

Councillor Chung’s email represents a new low for local politics in this country. I have supported the Mayor through this type of nonsense since she was elected and will continue to do so. Please don’t vote for behaviour like this or anyone associated with it. It’s disgusting.

In my current work, I point to the invasion of Iraq 2003 as a moment where the public's trust in the foundational ideals of democracy, verification, deliberation, and accountability were systematically betrayed, destroying their trust in democratic systems.
Its nice the kids get to experience their own 2003 style build-up to an unjust war like we did.

I think there's a period where a council shouldn't do anything but keep lights on. That period is between ballots being sent out & the new council being sworn in.

Genuinely bizarre & no basis in principle to suggest it's improper to continue implementation of decisions made by council *years* ago

What is really baffling here is that one of Andrew Little’s most prominent commitments so far is to “make public transport cheaper” and while that is actually impossible for him to do (wrong council), what he could deliver is more bus improvements, including the long overdue ones on the Golden Mile!
Andrew Little on why we shouldn’t complete Golden Mile contracts. He’s wrong. Yes big decisions taper off after July recess up to the election, but this is not a new decision. This work has been coming for years, through multiple decisions over multiple councils. It’s happening.
