A four lane road cutting through the most densely populated part of Wellington and NZTA still can't tell the Council where it's going - but apparently they can get in touch with over 200 property owners whose land they need for the new tunnels.

NDAs and no heads-up: NZTA freezes out council on tunnel plans
Wellington City councillor Geordie Rogers says a heads up on tunnel plans would have been nice ‒ especially given the wide-ranging impacts on the capital.

It won’t be the big story today and I am not the big winner, but so proud of my team. Even with a shift to a different party, we won 1386 more first preferences than last election. All without saying a bad word against anyone. Thank you 💚

I have a theory that Wellington city has hit 48% voter turnout (with specials still to come) because our people wanted to vote against nastiness and division and for nice and normal candidates. And for the Māori ward!

okay we’re now up to 28,194 votes (or 17.48%)… which still kinda sucks tbh. just know that if you don’t vote then I will hold you personally responsible for every terrible dipshit who gets elected
only 10 votes received yesterday (which I assume is a weird quirk related to the weekend) which isn’t even enough to change the percentage.

remember that the worst person you know is definitely voting and if you don’t vote then you’re basically letting them choose for you

📣 VFF and Local Election

Wellington VFF's Regional CO is Dean Harris. Dean lives in the WCC area but is running for Mayor in Kapiti. Why? His answer in Upskilling for Local Democracy (U4LG) was "politics." Better Wellington was already in full swing, starting their campaign in 2024.

I want to emphasise the importance of anyone with a progressive or even a fair-minded bone in their body in the Wharangi Onslow-Western ward giving me their first preference. Please hit up friends in Karori, Ngaio, Wilton, Northland, Wadestown, Khandallah etc to check they voted

Someone just hearted this skeet from March and it is ridiculously timely at this point in the local govt election campaign - let your local lady and nonbinary candidates know you love them cos its pretty brutal atm. Shoutout to @rebeccamatthews.bsky.social one of my all time faves 🫶
PH picks up on ST's point about how women are constantly adapting to these environments which exhausts us. "Enough now, the system is fundamentally broken... politics is broken beyond fixability". Need to shift to conversations, listening, respect, eg participatory & deliberative democracy.
