<p>Members of a graduate student union at Cornell University voted overwhelmingly to pass a referendum in support of "the <a href="https://www.middleeasteye.net/countries/palestine" target="_blank">Palestinian</a> liberation struggle”.</p>
<p>Results were announced on Wednesday following a three-day voting period for members of the Cornell Graduate Students United (<a href="https://cgsu.org/" target="_blank">CGSU-UE Local 300</a>). The voting period ended on Tuesday. </p>
<p>The union said Cornell University supported human rights abuses against Palestinians through research and ties to the weapons industry, and the decision allows it to "join a larger movement to end the genocide in Palestine".</p>
<p>“Cornell is implicated in the Israeli genocide of Palestinians through research, recruitment, and financial ties with the weapons industry, and endowment investments,” a statement from the <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Km7wnD4o7EQthrR22D_aEtVh64AnIsjG/view?pli=1" target="_blank">union</a> reads.</p>

<p>“The ceasefire risks creating a dangerous illusion that life in Gaza is returning to normal,” Agnes Callamard, secretary general of Amnesty International, said in a statement on Thursday. </p>
<p>"While Israeli authorities and forces have reduced the scale of their attacks and allowed limited amounts of humanitarian aid into Gaza, the world must not be fooled. Israel’s genocide is not over,” she added.</p>
<p>Amnesty International in December 2024 deemed Israel’s war on Gaza a genocide. That judgment was reaffirmed by the United Nations’ top investigative body on <a href="https://www.middleeasteye.net/countries/palestine" target="_blank">Palestine</a> and <a href="https://www.middleeasteye.net/countries/israel" target="_blank">Israel</a> in September when it ruled that Israel is guilty of the crime of genocide in the strip. That view has been shared by dozens of world leaders, historians, human rights experts, and genocide scholars. </p>
