Feel like the trans TA is being punished for being trans (of course), but even more for refusing to take the bait, explicitly saying the student is entitled to their views, and then failing them on the merits. Mediocrities HATE that sort of thing.

I think a big thing I struggle with, and something that is an important thing for people of my generation to attempt to understand, is separating toxic nostalgia from knowledge of the actual ways in which American life has gotten appreciably worse in my lifetime
it’s so weird to look around and realize like, tech and media are materially worse than a decade ago

Screenwriting tip: Del gets his defining monologue 28 minutes in. The movie doesn’t let you think he’s a joke for long. He does a lot of abrasive things after. But we know at every moment he’s a good man. We are with him after that. Candy deserved an Oscar nomination
