I get what you're saying, and I agree that one day is not going to have a huge impact. But how the hell do we get from our current "no collective action whatsoever" status quo to "effective collective action" without even being able to organize some small dry runs?

Obviously direct impact is limited.

This week's effort is most meaningful as an exercise, an intentional spending introductory workout.

Do it, then learn to do it regularly.

Exactly this since well being and living conditions are always relative to what's possible. Comparing poverty now to poverty 20 years ago even to me i'd rather have been poor then.
Also another driver is instability which is worser nowadays
Also, a big thing people leave out of all of these discussions is that inequality is a driver of unhappiness. Regardless of whether living conditions are improving in general since hundreds of years ago, if inequality increases that impacts happiness and conflict

Both are fascism unfortunately.
Like there is no good and understandable compliance in advance.
is it "complying in advance out of fear" or "finally just being allowed to do what they always wanted to"

The death toll on this at a global scale is going to be unfathomable. This is horrible news and many people are saying the pause is illegal which i hope means something to the courts. But to even try it is very concerning.
Many sudden and shocking health care developments this week. But this was a big one: The Trump administration on Friday paused funding for PEPFAR, the famed program to fight HIV/AIDS around the world.

Funds for fight against HIV/AIDS paused in Trump aid freeze
The President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR, is credited with saving 25 million lives worldwide and has long enjoyed bipartisan support.

Remember that brief moment where society almost correctly understood "impact is greater than intent". We should try to get back to that, instead of all this "it's probably not malicious" or "that's not what they meant" about every fucking thing.
