I get what you're saying, and I agree that one day is not going to have a huge impact. But how the hell do we get from our current "no collective action whatsoever" status quo to "effective collective action" without even being able to organize some small dry runs?

Exactly this since well being and living conditions are always relative to what's possible. Comparing poverty now to poverty 20 years ago even to me i'd rather have been poor then.

Also, a big thing people leave out of all of these discussions is that inequality is a driver of unhappiness. Regardless of whether living conditions are improving in general since hundreds of years ago, if inequality increases that impacts happiness and conflict

The death toll on this at a global scale is going to be unfathomable. This is horrible news and many people are saying the pause is illegal which i hope means something to the courts. But to even try it is very concerning.

Remember that brief moment where society almost correctly understood "impact is greater than intent". We should try to get back to that, instead of all this "it's probably not malicious" or "that's not what they meant" about every fucking thing.
