In New York, 3 million people rely on SNAP. Ensuring they can still eat will take $700 million per month, but we have $29 billion in reserves.
Governor Hochul can call a special session immediately to move the money. Our members of Congress can condition ending the shutdown on getting reimbursed. 🧵

New: Hochul is declaring an official "food emergency" and has announced an additional $65 million for food assistance, bringing total to $106 million dedicated in the past few days
Gov. Hochul is at a Harlem food pantry, flanked by Rev. Al Sharpton, other clergy and local lawmakers, to once again decry the planned shut off of SNAP benefits on Saturday l. "I'm looking at the whole scale of this," she says. "This is all bad."

This is the work i'm proudest from my time at FPI.
We're proud to have worked with the AFL-CIO to reform this system—convincing the State to pay down its $7B debt, raise the maximum weekly UI benefit rate, and expand the taxable wage base to increase the fund’s long-term fiscal stability. www.cityandstateny.com/policy/2025/...
Weekly unemployment insurance benefits set to increase
The maximum unemployment insurance benefit rate from $504 per week to $869 per week beginning, now that the state has paid off its unemployment trust fund debt.

🚨New Tax Data Confirm Tax Flight Is A Myth:
Analysis of new tax data shows that the 2021 tax increases on high earners raise an estimated $3.6 billion annually, boosting state revenue without triggering increased out-migration among high earners.

It is worth noting that the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" is incredibly unpopular. I haven't seen a single credible poll with support above 40% of adults.
And that's just if you ask people, "Do you support the OBBB." If you poll them about the individual components, it's 30+ points underwater.
