Why am I fearful and angry every time I see an American flag on a car on the road, or flying from a house? Do I hate or fear our country? No. I feel like it's been co-opted as a symbol by those on the right who would see trans folk gone. But we're American too, and we love this country just as much.

Some days there are California scrub jays, European starlings, American robins, savannah sparrows, bushtits, and recently even a brown-headed cowbird.
