As a future cardiovascular healthcare professional, I have learned a lot about how nutrition can impact your cardiovascular health, both positively and negatively. It is important for me to understand nutrition because lifestyle changes are very beneficial in preventing heart diseases. #beh353

One thing I love about your account is that you can debunk misinformation about foods or fad diets and be able to provide evidence. We tend to assume that "raw" or "unprocessed" foods are inherently healthier, but they can be dangerous. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

As a type 1 diabetic, I tend to think that healthy eating only benefits type 2 diabetes, but it benefits everyone (not just diabetics). I actually have a cookbook from when I was first diagnosed full of recipes that help manage blood sugar. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Carrolls story on Chic Fil A was so well done. I'm pursuing a career in cardiovascular, this quote, "What was worse - dying from a stroke, or being ashamed of what the scale would say the next time I stepped on it?" shows embarrassment holds people back from getting help. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I think we do need to talk more about how childhood obesity is related to poverty. I never knew there were so many studies conducted that found links to childhood obesity and low income households. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I find it really sad that young kids, especially young girls, learn from social media that "skinny is healthy" and they start to prioritize their body image over their health. Do you have any information on the demographics of this study? I'm curious how many were female. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Love this reminder, do you think the type of whole grain matters most (like oats vs. quinoa), or is it more about consistently choosing whole over refined? #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
Whole grains give more than just fiber. They provide vitamins, minerals, and plant compounds stripped away in refined grains. Swapping white rice for brown or choosing oats over sugary cereals are small changes that add up for better health. #RealWorldNutrition

After my food recall I realized that I skip meals during a busy day and don’t realize it. It was kind of hard to recall everything because sometimes I tend to miss meals and just eat random things throughout the day. I learned that I should add more iron in my diet. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

The confusion of sugar vs HFCS is interesting. HFCS sounds worse than real sugar, but there is only a slight difference in their chemical makeup. HFCS tends to be in highly processed junk foods, when brands started using real sugar, it didn’t really make them healthier. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Do you have any recommendations on how to eat out without being tempted to eat the entire portion? I agree that restaurant portions are too big, but I often finish the meal anyway because I feel it’s a waste. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
We really need to focus on portions and not single foods or ingredients.
Portions - in restaurants, bakeries, grocers - are too large.
We will eat the plate.
Yet can be satisfied with less is less becomes the normalized option.
I found this interesting because instead of being wary of certain ingredients, it's crucial to focus on broad diet habits. The key factors are caution, range, & rational choices. I like that healthy eating, portion control, and whole foods are prioritized over publicity. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
