Just a reminder that this happened NOT because "journalists are getting lazy," but because obits for public figures are frequently written well in advance to ensure promptness. I learned how to write a preemptive obit in journalism school. This is not a new phenomenon. + Jimmy Carter was super old.
Both the New York Times and Washington Post obituaries for Jimmy Carter have joint bylines including writers who have been dead for years. The Guardian ran an obit with a single byline—and yes, the writer has been dead since 2021.

UVA and Virginia state police are raiding the Gaza solidarity encampment next to the Rotunda. They literally changed the bylaws, which previously permitted tents, a few hours ago. The encampment had been going quietly for several days.
