An orchid weevil made its way into the Cairns Botanic Gardens undetected until plants began to show signs of distress, but by then almost the whole collection was infested.

A few years ago I made a conscious decision to change the way I approached botany. I had overwhelmed myself with detail, trying to be a better botanist by assuming that I needed to know and memorise every fine detail . I decided to purposefully concentrate on grouping plants, by habitat. 1/

These three are pretty neat! I found them around campus on the sort of gloomy morning of November 5th, which in hindsight, the weather seems like an omen... Anyways! Here we have Coprinopsis variegata, Coprinopsis atramentaria, and Coprinus comatus.
