Whether you like or dislike what’s said at universities, free speech is at the core of our democracy, and protecting it should be one of the core missions of universities.

Which is why America needs a new Free Speech Movement, similar to the one that broke out on college campuses 61 years ago.
Why we need a new free speech movement
And why universities should sue the Trump regime for abridging the First Amendment rights of their institutions and their students

Perhaps the most critical resistance is believing.

Not fascists; they can't talk without lying.

But believing alternatives are possible. Believing that you're not alone, that the future isn't over, that your resting and dreaming and hoping aren't wasted.

He told me that. And now I told you.

Been home for about a week? Ice and snow. More freezing temps and snow predicted for tomorrow. Snow doesn't bother me. The ice we get an ice thick on walkways does. We are not used to this here.

OPINION: No doubt religion in America has undergone many changes in the past 62 years: Mainline Protestantism has shrunk, the nones have risen, and clerical leadership is a far cry from what it once was.
The gathering force of Trump's religious opposition
(RNS) — We are seeing the beginnings of an interfaith protest movement the likes of which we haven’t seen since the March on Washington.

Yes, this post did remind me of my grandmother using newspapers to draft patterns for the clothes she sewed for me.
This is a sewing pattern. It is also a page from a late 14th century manuscript that is one of two primary sources for an important Icelandic saga (Sturlunga saga), but that was probably not important to the 17th century person who really needed a sewing pattern.

Granddaughters are learning embroidery and those trips to Michael's are an ouch as it was not a hobby I had done for years.
Today on our local buy/sell groups I found a large shoe box nearly brim full of good DMC embroidery thread for less than one Michael's trip. Treasure.
