What is autistic burnout like? When a computer goes into safe mode, "that would describe what happens to the brain: it runs on limited function, not all services are available, & its access to the Internet denied & unable to connect." @kieranrose.bsky.social:

An Autistic Burnout — THINKING PERSON'S GUIDE TO AUTISM
The sad truth is that so many Autistic people—kids & adults—go through autistic burnout with zero comprehension of what is happening to them.

We are not in 1930s Germany.

We are in the United States of America.

The same United States of America that was founded on genocide and chattel slavery.

The same United States of America that enforced Jim Crow, permitted lynching, and is currently practicing mass incarceration.

Two autistic adults/parents of autistic kids "advise you to relax. There is no 'epidemic of autism.' Instead, what we face is an epidemic of need. The main reason we are finding more autism is simple: Clinicians are getting better at spotting what was always there."

As I wrote earlier this week: "We must also remember that a real surge in crime would not excuse acts of authoritarian consolidation. We must be wary of logics that suggest Trump’s authoritarian maneuvers might be reasonable, if he were more accurately describing conditions on the ground."

It is literally HOW they operate and are legitimized, and how they manufacture consent…Interrupting criminalization must therefore be at the core of our response." — @dreanyc123.bsky.social

Fascism is here. We are not “getting closer” or “in danger of.”

This matters because it frames our discussion: We aren’t trying to prevent it, we’re trying to defeat it. It’s not taking over our institutions, it’s taken them over.

Otherwise, we’re always behind, fighting a past we’ve already lost.

Do you not believe raped women because they're lying sluts who wanted it and are just trying to take a good man down, or do you not believe women because they're traumatized and can't be trusted to interpret their own experience? These are different paths to the came conclusion.

The rape victim's perspective—particularly about rape itself—is judged, under this vision of "trauma," as untrustworthy. If experience can be a kind of informing expertise, "trauma" now is an experience that epistemically degrades the subject—one that makes her less competent.

Interested in the changing political valence of "trauma" which in the Me Too era was used as a means of (perhaps remedially) trying to create empathy for the suffering of rape victims. Now, I see it used much more often as an attack on epistemic authority.

This is a humanitarian crisis on a seismic scale.

The U.S. needs to use every lever of power to pressure the Israeli government to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, stop the targeting and killing of Palestinians seeking food, and bring an end to this slaughter once and for all.

The Israeli government is perpetrating a mass starvation campaign by blocking life-saving aid from reaching Gaza.

Tens of thousands of children are at risk of death due to Israel’s blockade. Hundreds of people seeking food and aid have been shot dead by IDF troops.
