Ultimately the minimum wage is a brilliant tool, but it can’t compensate for “we haven’t built any housing”, “we have cut cash transfers to the bone” and “all the third spaces have been cut to pay for social care”.
The minimum wage is not a cure all — we’re asking too much of business
Politicians spend too much time uttering cheap rhetoric about cheap labour

New — I wrote about the myriad ways journalism’s moral rot manifests, and how our crumbling institutions have created the conditions for it to fester:
Moral rot in elite journalism is killing the whole field
The Nuzzi/RFK Jr. mess and the revelation of Esptein's journo pals lay bare a profound moral absence at the heart of our free press.

Retrospectively removing indefinite leave to remain would be immoral and economically damaging. It would tear families apart.
Attacking it as ‘potentially illegal’ is completely beside the point.
Argue with the (awful) idea. Don’t try ’well, actually you can’t do that’.

Watched Al Jazeera tonight, which I hadn’t done in a long time. It really crystallized just how poorly American media have covered the far right movement, particularly from the lens of it being a global threat. The Tommy Robinson rally in London was very reminiscent of Charlottesville. Total chaos.

You do not in fact have to praise the guy who said homeless people should be murdered with lethal injections and then apologized four days later to save his job. Let's get a grip here.
Brian Kilmeade deserves praise for his apology.
Brian Kilmeade apologized for his comments about homeless people getting lethal injections this morning on Fox & Friends, saying "so many homeless people deserve our empathy and compassion."

Here's the clip of his apology 👇

The assassination of Charlie Kirk makes we worry we can no longer have peaceful discussions of whether gays should be stoned to death or civil and collegial debates about whether black people are inherently inferior. Our culture will suffer.

They befriend, support them, reach out to them as fellow human beings.

Firing and demoralizing feminized jobs as enemies of the state while brazenly bribing men with violent jobs that almost instantly puts them into the middle of middle class is very basic gendered warfare. Fulfilling the manosphere’s promise.
It is insane to me that the government can find money to pay ICE agents increasingly larger sums of money, yet teachers have to buy their own pencils.

And the uncertainty interval puts it possibly as high as 19.6 million deaths. Again, maybe the most baffling thing for future historians to parse out about this era is how and why this singularly awful and ignorant person weaseled his way SO deep into the US government in so little time.
