a nerd!! also an anthropology grad student when not drowning in work; globalization and landscapes

Hello, Bluesky! I’m a Filipino anthropology grad student and researcher with interests in the anthropology of globalization and informality, maritime borders, and landscapes.

Moved over from twitter’s trenches to learn new things, and who knows? Maybe I could share my own perspectives as well. :)

We worked for months with USAID to build an $85,000,000 project to end TB in two regions of the Philippines.

The project is funded by private money, the Philippine government, and matching USAID funds.

It could provide a blueprint for eliminating TB worldwide--except it's...not happening.

USAID does in fact carry out or fund an enormous amount of vital services globally.

The destruction of USAID has been utterly ruinous to a lot of innocent people, and it’s only just begun.

Please don't call what RFK Jr. and Jay Bhattacharya are going to do medieval. It's not medieval. It's nothing like the Middle Ages. People in the Middle Ages were happy to try all kinds of things to not die of the plague and if you'd given them antibiotics and vaccines they would have loved it.

Discussing Bluesky migration in terms of liberal flight misses the simple fact that most people use social media for fun not influence and this platform, unlike X and cruddified Facebook, doesn’t feel like you’re wading through shit to reach your friends. It’s not that deep.
