Inching toward 40 and still trying to figure out my life goals while I watch the world slowly burn around me.
If I had died the same way, he would have called it an acceptable cost. If my child had died he would have said your empathy was a failure. If my friends died he would have blamed it on a trans woman or a black man. I refuse to be sad for him.

American healthcare: You tell your provider you feel awful all the time and think you know why. He orders labs; they show inflammation but rule out three specific causes, not the one you said. Repeat labs are a bit better. This means no recommendations except diet and exercise. You still feel awful.

Isn't it funny how the party that spawned QAnon conspiracies that politicians were buying underage children just voted to block the release of the names of politicians buying underage children? If they had nothing to fear, this would serve only to energize their most fanatical supporters.

Using the app that no one IRL has found me on to whine that I'm having a horrible week caused entirely by my own actions and the fact that I did something I deserve no sympathy for so I can't whine to real people even though I'm dying inside.

In case you think unreliable weather data is a one-off fluke, I'm far from TX and am being told at this minute that it is cloudy. I've been out here for three hours and haven't seen a single cloud.

This could already be happening. There is ZERO oversight.

I found out that one of my late dad's friends was arrested for harassing and threatening people at my tiny hometown's No Kings. He's worked at the county jail for decades. He was always a funny guy and he was so sweet at dad's funeral. Fascism and hatred hide behind friendly faces.

I'm exhausted. I've been job hunting for three months. I have enough in the bank for one more mortgage payment, assuming I don't pay anything else. And outside my house is a fascist nightmare. I'm still going because my kid needs me to.

Be warned: Trump will likely use his war with Iran as a pretext to further suppress dissent at home.

We must resist his efforts to stifle freedom of speech, make warrantless searches and arrests of Americans, and put more military onto our streets.

Being grabbed by unidentified, masked men and thrown into an unmarked vehicle used to be something that people came to America to get away from.

Some kids have Pokemon. My kid has the life list on the Merlin bird ID app. Gotta identify them all!

Life in America: I was giving my child a lesson in the history of my culture (teaching him about Stonewall and the origin of Pride) and said the cops bullied gay people. He immediately asked if they were "the ICE police."

Laid out my five-year plan yesterday. The goal is to have about half of my property actively producing food. Getting phase one of the garden (for salsa and pasta sauce) in this year. Planted raspberries and apples. Already have blueberries and currants. Goals are good.

They care as much if a woman dies as if an appliance breaks down. We're not human, we're just incubators.

We're two days into Pride. A queer Native actor was murdered and media aren't reporting it as a targeted hate crime. The FBI has declared open season on gender affirming care providers. We need the spirit of Marsha and Sylvia now more than ever. And some bricks.

The right pearl-clutching over 8647 is further proof that they're completely out of touch. 86 is a kitchen term. If I 86 steak it doesn't mean I murdered it, it means it's gone. I used to yell "86" multiple times on a Friday night and amazingly no one died.

Insulting The Boss might be the thing that finally loses favor among white males over age 40.
If this person sat next to you on a bus or train and started ranting about Bruce Springsteen in this way, you would get up and move to a different seat.

In the United States, we have him the nuclear codes.

I'm watching a pileated woodpecker peck at a stump surrounded by wildflowers while two baby squirrels play in the tree behind it. Sometimes rural living is very worth it.

4th grade field trip day. My son is in a tie-dyed shirt, a clashing tie-dyed bucket hat and sunglasses on a strap around his neck. He's one fanny pack from being a 55-year old insurance broker cutting loose on vacation.

Story time: As an impoverished single mother (with three kids under age five) in WNY in the 1950s, my grandma didn't have many options. One summer she worked with the migrants picking green beans.

There are going to be no other adults around this weekend, so the entirety of my Mother's Day will be the card kiddo made in school, after I remind him it's in his backpack. I'm going to love that card, but having to cook dinner and everything is some bullshit.
