When the @theglobeandmail.com’s car guy agrees that bike lanes are good, maybe removing them is a huge mistake.

Great article by @mattbubbers.bsky.social.

Cyclists should consider carrying one of these devices for safety purposes.

If you come across a car crash while cycling, you can quickly and safely break the vehicle’s glass to help the occupants escape.

Remember, road safety is everyone’s responsibility!

The only way to defeat ford.

NDP, Liberals, and Greens are complicit in Ford’s actions if they don’t get this done.

I’m going to say this again. Given that the Ontario Liberal, NDP and Green Parties are WELL AWARE of the likelihood that splitting the vote would hand the Doug Ford Conservatives another comfortable majority govt with a small % of the vote, I’d think they would put aside ambitions AND WORK TOGETHER.
This is SHOCKING. Among everything else that’s despicable about this, ITS A CLEAR ADMISSION THAT THEY KNOW THAT DOING THIS WILL OBVIOUSLY ENDANGER LIVES.

People rode bikes on these streets before the bike-lanes (albeit fewer) and they will again after. The inevitable blood will be on Ford’s hands.

This is an admission of guilt. They know people will get injured or die as a direct result of this bill.

Why else would they need this protection?

Injured cyclists can't sue province under amendment to new Ontario bike lane bill, NDP says | CBC News
Opposition MPPs slammed amendments to the Ford government's controversial bike lane bill Thursday, saying these changes would create legal protections for the province if cyclists are hurt or killed after lanes are removed.

Managed to get a flat on the way back from the ghost bike ride. Was on my 1980s MTB… of course I have no 26” tubes.

Guess I gotta unicycle to the bike shop this weekend 😀

Ontario’s transit minister doesn’t believe the city’s estimate of $48M to remove bike lanes.

He doesn’t have an estimate.

The province’s engineers (PEGO) are on strike, so they don’t have an estimate either.

The cost of not removing them is far greater because… he feels like it is.

Sounds like the city will require the province to fund replacement bike lanes and prevent removal until they are complete.

They also note that it’s going to be expensive since there’s no easy parallel routes.

I guess we’ll see if the province uploads Bloor 🤷‍♂️

#BikeTO
On the idea of putting bike lanes on "side streets", report found "no feasible parallel alternatives" and says alternatives would likely require new bridge structures or property acquisition. City would ask province to cover those costs.
