This article is about a great deal more than heat pumps.
Plenty to ponder

It's always been the case that "buying" an ebook from amazon was only actually a loan they could rescind at any point, but lately Amazon have gone harder on this, and it is 100% so that they can wipe banned books from your libraries without your consent.

Our wonderful new Labour MP,Laura Kyrke-Smith, is on BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour right now, talking about post-natal depression and women’s mental health.
So proud of Laura, MP for Aylesbury. She’s amazing.

This is very disappointing, Chancellor.
A third runway at #Heathrow in the midst of a climate emergency is a vile act of vandalism. Rachel Reeves is happy to burn the planet for a tiny (probably elusive) increment of GDP. How does this benefit us?

Happy PLR Day to everyone who celebrates! And readers, remember that not only do libraries give you access to a wide selection of books for free, the Government also pays authors a small sum for every time one of their books is borrowed from a public library... #ThisWritingLife

Even if you’re writing a short email to someone trying to explain a problem, the fact you have to think about how to express that clearly and precisely is a process by which you come to understand it more deeply yourself.

We will be out and about talking about POTHOLES this weekend!

The Labour Party is providing £1.6billion to local councils to fix potholes - almost 50% MORE than the Tories promised!

If you see us, come and chat - we need to hold our local council to account to get these fixed, and save you money 🌹

"A request made through ChatGPT, an AI-based virtual assistant, consumes 10 times the electricity of a Google Search"

This isn't a game. This is accelerated destruction via huge usage of power, water, resources etc. Stop using it - especially for messing about!!

AI has an environmental problem. Here’s what the world can do about that.
The sprawling data centres that house AI servers churn out toxic electronic waste and are voracious consumers of electricity, which in most places is still produced from fossil fuels.

Hello to my new followers. Just putting this out there: I’ll be curating my “following” list to keep it to real-life connections and people/organisations directly relevant to me. So apologies in advance for not following back. It’s not you; it’s me.

Wonderful #CIEP2023 Whitcombe Lecture by @robinince.bsky.social. The beauty of bookshops and libraries; avoiding the ‘rules’ of reading; AI being unable to write jokes; books as weapons of empathy; ghostly connections; and filling our lives with stories. ‘THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS TOO MANY BOOKS.’
