PUT $ ON THE BOOKS OF INCARCERATED FIREFIGHTERS

There are over 1,000 incarcerated firefighters currently fighting the flames in LA. They get paid $5-$10/day. This is modern day slavery & this practice should be abolished.

Until then, send some $ here: bit.ly/FirefighterGI

I’ve heard them mention the possibility of looting at every press conference and not one example of any looting happening at all at any of them.
Local officials have completely failed us and people are recognizing that. As a part of their PR plan, they’ve started to focus on “looting,” a non-issue. This is meant to distract you from the government’s failures.

Stay focused.

Being an adult is really something because you can be absolutely thrown out of commission and into hell for 24 hours by a bout of food poisoning and then suddenly be absolutely fine save for the agonizing back pain from getting on/off the floor so many times and sleeping on your couch all day!

Very excited for @adenaishii.bsky.social and for Berkeley!
Sophie Hahn just called Adena Ishii and conceded the race. Mayor Ishii, super urbanist candidate and outsider, is now mayor of Berkeley.

The real trap here is that the Republicans have made defending civil rights seem like a frivolous thing and a whole lot of liberals are falling in line. Even if it was a culture war, so what? This would be a war worth fighting. What are we even doing here, people? Get it together.

This isn't a culture war. This is the only trans congresswoman, ever being bullied through the press and legislation, and having only 1 of hundreds of colleagues stand up for her. They can do more than 1 thing at a time. Defending her will not take so much effort that they can't do their jobs.
Defending Sarah McBride is absolutely the right thing to do, and yet there’s also the risk of being baited into yet another culture war cycle that distracts from the Republican grift. Her statement suggests she wants to move forward, and I think it’s wise to take the cue from her.

Goodreads is owned by Jeff Bezos. A better alternative is StoryGraph, a Black woman-owned platform. And before y’all start, you can transfer all your Goodreads data to Storygraph so you literally have no excuse.

“We’re going to be okay.”

The language ostensibly used to empower and comfort people facing peril can sometimes come across as dismissive. Though, of course, we don’t want to sink into despair, I think it’s important to take a beat to let people process and express their concerns.

The preliminary sequence from the H5N1 human case in British Columbia has been posted and it is not good news. The virus potentially has a quasispecies at HA residue 226 (H3 numbering). This is bad news because we know that mutations at residue 226 can increase binding to human receptors. 1/

Someone with very little legal experience for AG! This isn't normal. Don't write about it like it's normal. A guy who likes to workout but is not a medical professional for HHS and who is an anti-vaxxer? This is dangerous. DANGEROUS. Call it dangerous. Deadly. What are y'all doing????
