I prefer Italo Treno to @trenitalia.bsky.social because they give me an over-60s discount without requiring me to sign up for a membership or prove that I live in Italy (I don't). Their service is good as well, so why not?

Survey asked why I hadn't used Airbnb lately. I said: "Joe Gebbia supports DOGE and Project 2025. I won't use Airbnb again as long as he is there. The Government already had a brilliant design team at 18F and did NOT need to replace it with someone who cares nothing for usability or accessibility."

@raskin.house.gov Thank you so much for your email about how the shutdown is likely to affect government services. How do I contact your web team to alert them to accessibility problems with your emails?

I wrote a blog post about the most common accessibility issue in digital design. Those of you who know me won't be at all surprised to learn what that is. 😉

💡Across more than 1 billion websites, one particular #accessibility barrier is everywhere — but all too often no one notices it.

In our latest post @ebuie.bsky.social explains why it’s such a problem, what WCAG says about it, and how new research is shaping better approaches:

I just nominated Musica Secreta for a charity award. My choir sing very similar music (some of the exact same, in fact), and Laurie's work enriches my life.
I know I keep asking for people's money (and will until Musica Secreta's crowdfunder is finished next week) but this is just asking for seconds of your time. Go, Go, Go!

Trump is heading to Scotland this weekend and wants the next Open held at his Turnberry course. I just signed a petition: DO NOT give it to him. Will you join me?

Dear @ncstate.bsky.social — About the recent email from your Gift Planning department — I was aghast to see that you had bought into the current regime's name for the omnibus bill. It is BY NO MEANS beautiful, and if you continue to use that misleading name I will remove you from my will. Thanks.

#PremierInn have changed their mattresses sometime in the last couple of years. The new ones are nowhere near as comfortable as the Hypnos ones they used to use. 😢

For shame, senators! You value tax cuts for the rich more than you value the very lives of the poor and the middle class. Shame on you! #BigEvilBill

I'd just like to say that all three people I've spoken to at #DVLA customer service have been warm, friendly, helpful, and informative. Thank you, DVLA!

I learned some important things from this post alone. 💙💙💙
I didn’t give a wit about new pope coverage, but the first American pope being a man with Black ancestry born in Chicago by way of New Orleans by way of Haiti. Names his self after the pope who condemned slavery? In the Trump era? Oh, baebae, I am HERE for it.

Pope Leo XIV's grandparents were 7th Ward Creoles
The newly elected pontiff, born in Chicago, has ancestral ties to the city’s historic Seventh Ward, according to genealogists at The Historic New Orleans Collection.

Really interesting article via @ebuie.bsky.social: "Time saved by AI offset by new work created, study suggests"
I believe it - especially with the time being lost detecting AI use in education, exams & job apps, or searching for info that isn't generated slop.

Time saved by AI offset by new work created, study suggests
Survey of 2023–2024 data finds that AI created more tasks for 8.4 percent of workers.
