NSF just revised its indirect cost policy—15%.
When NIH tried the same, it led to lawsuits, layoffs, and a federal court injunction.

Changes like this can wreak havoc on research.

MORE ACTION ITEMS TO COME SOON. Stay tuned.

The Merlin Bird ID app wouldn’t exist #WithoutNSF. 🪶
I've been taking early walks in the park to watch and listen to birds for my sanity, and the Merlin Bird ID app has been indispensable for identifying bird songs.

Merlin was funded by a grant from the NSF, the science funding agency that Trump is trying to destroy.

Google wouldn’t exist #WithoutNSF. Page and Brin started Google based on NSF-funded research they did at Stanford, which has made Stanford, Google, and lots of other people a lot of money. It’s made the rest of us stupid but that’s another topic.

The president is recommending a 40% cut to next year’s NIH budget. This would be disastrous for our nation’s health and economy. Please contact your representatives, especially if they are Republicans, and tell them why this cannot happen. An easy option: 5calls.org

As a licensed psychologist I am saying with my whole chest: Gender-affirming care for young people is health care. Medically necessary, age-appropriate, science-backed, life-saving health care, supported by EVERY major medical association.

It is our duty to protect trans youth at all costs.

Have you called your reps to oppose the nomination of RFK Jr yet today? Have you called your reps to tell them the impact the current EOs will have on your research today? Have you called to say how these EOs will affect your neighbors, friends, family?

Are you involved in political organizing?

NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
