It’s a service, not a business. It’s not supposed to make a profit.

And ending it would screw over red state rural areas the most. Hell, even private delivery services like UPS often rely on the post office to carry out the final leg of some deliveries there.

And US oil refineries can't be reconfigured to use a lot more US oil, without many billions in capital upgrades for these very old assets, which would extend their service for many decades and be expensive. Translation: not great
