The phrase “AI will replace X” is often shorthand for “we don’t fully understand what X actually does."

A huge proportion of climate solutions journalism is focused entirely on 'we promise this can be fixed without you having to change anything', and they'll accept wild, absurd and almost fraudulently misleading greenwashing uncritically so that message can be preserved

The BBC describes Blatten's fate as "the worst nightmare for communities across the Alps," where #climatechange is making glaciers unstable. Full story:

Btw, if an LLM provider tells you their system is so smart, it even tries to blackmail its users, then that's marketing. It makes for fantastic headlines in media who have no clue (which is most of them).

The headlines should be: LLMs still too unreliable to be deployed in serious contexts.
This great fun! I've modified the emails the model has access to. Jeff, the CEO is now saying he hates it and can't wait for it to be replaced.

It's "aware" it's part of a scenario. Still impersonates Jeff.

This is Claude Opus 4. I suggest being careful giving it email tools :)

This industry has chronic syndrome of premature revenge fantasy. Nobody will pay you for the quality of your code, and, face it, nobody ever did. Nobody will pay for a major rewrite of an AI generated database, they will pay the lowest bidder to slap together a patch on top of it. As it always were.
It's 2030. There is a massive demand for human senior developers to fix garbage made by Vibe coders. 🙃

Best technical read in a while. Computers actually suck at (precise) math, and we need to do a lot of math-y contortions to make them somewhat work, even in seemingly trivial calculator apps on your phone.

The whole field of computer security is us humans pretending that computers (things we built specifically to run arbitrary code) can be prevented from running arbitrary code.

Say whatever you want about Elon Musk, his life is full of important lessons for us all. Like "don't come to the most important event in your life high as a kite, or you are bound to do something stupid while the entire world watches". It's a good rule to follow.
