Do I know anyone in the SC area who knows someone (or *is* someone) who wants to adopt two cats? I desperately need to find a home for my parents' two cats. I already have three, so I can't take them. They are boarding at their vet while I look, and I have to go home to PA in less than a week.

Time to hit the streets with my pro-Fed pamphlets and annoy passersby with the virtues of fiat currency.
Yale historian Timothy Snyder’s second rule of fighting autocracy is to “defend institutions,” which, he writes, “help us to preserve decency.” Snyder adds, “They need our help as well. Do not speak of ‘our institutions’ unless you make them yours by acting

This Is No Time for Cynicism
Writing off institutions like the Senate, which has a duty to scrutinize Donald Trump’s nominees, only plays into a would-be authoritarian’s hand.

A strange presupposition of the Hunter pardon discourse is that the slow erosion of norms is how you get authoritarianism when that just isn’t the case.

Weimar didn’t just slowly erode into the Third Reich. It took sudden and severe norm shifts to make that happen.

the pundit class has fried their brains from being too online. Their jobs are increasingly about just consuming and responding to Posts all day; Social media is an MMO they're addicted to, and they forget that all of this only matters within the context of real life
We then get to the tedious, tuneless ballad of reactionary centrist op-eds everywhere: This Marginalized Group Is Mean Online.

Having attended a few philosophy conferences, anyone suggesting that "any fool idea passes muster" without criticism is expressing their ignorance and nothing else.
Take this paragraph, which is talking about humanities, social sciences, etc. The argument that no one wants to make waves or criticize anyone else is farcical; if you spend 5 minutes on here or at a conference, you'll see people whose positions are indistinguishable to outsiders arguing stridently.

Also, high paying jobs aren't automatically available just because a person has an education. I have a masters degree and spent a year as a mosquito exterminator because that was the only thing I could get.

(Interesting job, tho, and certainly not for the lazy or a "cool" profession.)

The problem with using ableist language like "crazy" or "mentally ill" to describe abhorrent behavior is that the problem is normative, not descriptive.

For example, Rep Mace's failures are moral and epistemic, not cognitive. It isn't a question of ability but culpability.
