I think fundamentally, the ability to care about the rights of a small and vulnerable minority (of whom you might know no members) is an important sign of whether you are committed to human rights out of principle, or out of mere convenience.
Being nice to trans people really did turn out to be a load bearing part of liberal democracy ey

www.instagram.com/p/DN2edkFQOx... This post by anirbuddha on Instagram shows AI lying, fabricating - and admitting it when called out on it. Repeatedly. The QR code in this post should hopefully link to that post

Just bought myself a sander, some sanding discs and some filler (DIY jobs to do at home). And let's challenge the idea that trades/trade skills and academic knowledge/skills are entirely different things for entirely different people. I've been doing DIY/construction courses at college this year

Great thread by @ipanalysis.bsky.social on AI and qualitative analysis (and other things). I remain completely baffled about the enthusiasm for using AI to do qualitative analysis and (reflexive) TA specifically... not least because it is profoundly unethical, exploitative, eco disaster technology
Uncharacteristcally long 🧵 (sorry) re: #Qualitative methodologies, science, and 'AI'.

As Qualitative researchers, we should definitely care and remain curious about what 'good work' can look like - but we should be very wary about assuming that a focus on 'rigour' will address this question. 1/13

Another great talk this time by Dr Madeleine Pownall @maddipow.bsky.social about open science and qualitative research @ #QMiP2025 Absolutely agree that open science is not new and it's been part of at least some forms of qualitative research for decades #QualitativeResearch

Just read this very interesting write up of a study looking at brain scans of people who use ChatGPT versus those who don't: time.com/7295195/ai-c... (please note though that this is pre-peer review with a small sample - the authors have made it public now as it has implications now)
ChatGPT's Impact On Our Brains According to an MIT Study
The study, from MIT Lab scholars, measured the brain activity of subjects writing SAT essays with and without ChatGPT.

Trans people are our family and friends. Trans people break bread with us, laugh with us, share our hopes and dreams, cry with us, love with us, love us. Trans people are us. You can't cut trans people out of us without cutting us apart.

In addition to my other concerns about AI (ethical issues, concerns about potential erosion of critical thinking skills and creativity) I'm now pondering the mental health implications of a reliance on technology. Do we risk our own decision making and critical thinking? (1/?)

Today I went to a community arts workshop where we learned about weaving and Malaysian fabrics. The theme of the workshop was migration and stories, and it really made me think about the creative potential of textile arts in storytelling and qualitative research #Arts #Research #Textiles #Community
