This is just amateurish. The box contents would be short-term ok in a different situation, but has nobody even considered the practicalities of using them? I'm going to be *really* charitable and assume cockup over conspiracy, but they don't know what they are doing & need to listen to those who DO.

Guess how we get those? via codes that tell the website/kickstarter/etc, "Hey see this link? X person shared this, so you should pay them out for their link." It's typically "?ref=" IIRC (1/3)
I saw an infographic a couple years ago about how to remove source identifiers from links and why it's important, but I can't find it again and too many people I know are sending me links with them so here's an infographic straight from the oven
