There never was, is, nor will be any need for police to keep getting more militarised. Society never asked for cops to start seriously thinking they're soldiers, but if they want to act like an occupying army in their own country I hope they enjoy inevitably being treated like one by all and sundry.
"Police thought he had an IED" - is there any other reason for a provincial British police force to be talking and acting like IDF-trained soldiers than the obvious?

Officers believed at the time that the man they shot had an explosive device, investigators say.

Funny how people are up in arms about immigrants in the Superman movie. When the main character is an immigrant that's not born in this country. Heck, he isn't even born on this planet.

Umm what 🤦🏼‍♂️
Jesus fuck.
In 25 years of covering national security, I’ve never seen a story like this: Senior Trump officials discussed planning for the U.S. attack on Yemen in a Signal group--and inadvertently added the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Nice explainer on ranked choice voting, which supporters hope will lead to less political division in America but is running into problems in Cook County and Illinois, by @adquig.bsky.social, @tesskenny.bsky.social, Richard Requena: www.chicagotribune.com/2025/01/23/r...
Ranked choice voting could boost election fairness, supporters say. But it faces a steep uphill climb in Cook County.
Evanston and Oak Park have approved ranked choice voting, but the Cook County Clerk is waiting to act. DuPage and Will Counties may enact it first.
