Piccadilly Pub Will Open In Lincoln Square’s Former Green Post In December https://blockclubchicago.org/2025/11/18/piccadilly-pub-will-open-in-lincoln-squares-former-green-post-in-december/
LINCOLN SQUARE — Locals who miss the Green Post are in luck: a new pub from the same team will be open on Rockwell as soon as the first week of December. Piccadilly Pub will take over the Green Post’s former home at 4749 N. Rockwell St., offering neighbors a fast-casual tavern that takes its inspiration from the United Kingdom’s “chippy culture,” where taverns typically offer fish and chips. “The elevated, modern versions of that are creating all kinds of exciting and fun toppings and sauces to go along with those chips,” said Aaron Zacharias, one of Piccadilly Pub’s owners. The new menu will include housemade fish and chips, fried chicken sandwiches, Irish spice bags, local cider and pints as well as the debut of Piccadilly’s frozen Irish coffee. A smash burger will also be on the menu, Zacharias said. Piccadilly Pub’s gluten-free fish and chips. Credit: Provided. “For us, we’re elevating the fish itself. All of our fish and chips are all gluten-free and prepared in gluten-free fryers. It’s because we’ve found a breading that we think blows away anything traditional,” Zacharias said. “It’s just a bonus that it’s gluten-free and allows for this really crispy, yet not greasy, crust. So we can throw this Chicago ingenuity behind this chippy menu.” When Piccadilly Pub opens to the public, it’ll have holiday décor, new dart boards and pub games near the fireplace, Zacharias said. The pub will be tied more closely to the owners’ next-door speciality grocer, Piccadilly Market, which opened this year at 2559 W. Lawrence Ave. For example, customers can order Piccadilly Market sandwiches directly to their pub table during market hours, Zacharias said. “You can also grab a bottle of wine from our very curated selection at Piccadilly Market and just bring it over to the pub for a small corkage fee,” he said. Piccadilly Market at 2559 W. Lawrence Ave. Credit: Provided. The Green Post took over the former home of Lincoln Square’s Red Lion Pub in 2022 to serve a variety of beverages, including coffee and tea; breakfast foods like pies and pastries; and beer, bespoke gin cocktails and other menu items inspired by England, Ireland and Scotland. The ownership team — which is also behind The Northman, Bar on Buena and the now-closed Fountainhead — announced The Green Post’s final day of service in September. Part of the pivot to Piccadilly Pub is due to the changes in the hospitality and dining industries over the past five years, Zacharias said. “The landscape has changed. I think the Green Post was based on a model that was tried and true for decades,” Zacharias said. “We did everything to make the Green Post work. Everything. Unfortunately, there was no future there.” Beyond the financial investment, Zacharias and the other owners had an emotional investment in the location, as many of the Green Post’s staff had moved closer to the business while it was open. That prompted the owners to look at how they could quickly pivot into a business model that more closely aligned with how neighbors dine out, he said. When the new pub opens, many of the Green Post’s staff will return to serve customers, the owners said. The new format will include eliminating reservations and having fast-casual service, where customers order at the bar and staff brings it to the table. This is also reflected in the menu’s pricing, with the smash burger costing $9, Zacharias said. “Piccadilly Pub is built for our neighborhood. We have created a true community pub, with community pricing, where everyone feels welcome,” Zacharias said. “Keep it simple: fantastic food, great drinks, fair prices and zero pretense.” * * * **Support Local News!** **Subscribe to Block Club Chicago, **an independent, 501(c)(3), journalist-run newsroom. We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

I just helped an incredibly fetching young person in a short skirt and a long jacket find her way to the fun coach house party on my old block.

Join me in taking a knee as I channel Peter Falk and accept I have become the kindly Chicago neighborhood grandpa?

WE’VE ACTUALLY GOT A CHICAGO AMERICAN POPE!

Still can’t believe how freaking great that is.

Yeah if you’re the @CTA why WOULD you want to minimally raise fares for first time in 7 years and use that extra revenue to shore up your underfunded employee pension funds.

That would be too fiscally responsible!

Mall cops in tactical gear and masks arresting gardeners and dishwashers. What are the Feds doing wasting time on this?

Give me 50 FBI & ATF agents and a dozen extra US Attorneys to pursue gun crime and felon in possession of firearms cases in Chicago. THAT would actually make a difference.

Absolutely no offense intended but Chicago DOT testified yesterday that some of their projects take TWO TO FOUR YEARS of design work before construction begins.

Respectfully we have computers in 2025, bridges and roads are not new tech, how can design take more than two years? 🤷‍♂️ #ChiBudget2025

Anyhoo...I figured out @ChicagosMayor 2026 @ChicagoBudget buried a 20-30% increase in all liquor license and probably all other business licenses in their 2026 revenue estimates.

Not a word in his budget press releases though. 🤔💸

In niche Chicago things I find hilarious CPD has apparently contracted with a company called “Fast Eddie’s Towing” for special event tows.

Had no idea retired Alderman Vrdolyak had expanded into “fee based involuntary vehicle relocation” work.
