The Trump admin’s offer to give preferential treatment to institutions that toe the party line reeks of bribery in exchange for allegiance to a partisan ideological agenda.

This is corruption.

Adherence to ‘loyalty oaths’ would usher in a new era of thought policing in American higher education.

Back in grad school, Art Levine was the theorist that I was assigned to talk about in class. He was alive (still is!) so I emailed him and said "can we talk?"

As someone who does research on religious, secular and spiritual identities, and has even written about evangelical students in college, I can attest how unsettling and frankly ridiculous this latest EO is (and I'm a Christian myself).

And now a photo of our cat. Its been a rough week personally, professionally, politically at our house; maybe for you too. Share something that is bringing you joy this Friday in the replies.

This cat adopted us from our driveway in August of 2023. The kids named her Lorde Shadow. #JoyfulFriday

A federal court has ruled that Florida can detransition inmates.

Some trans inmates are having estrogen pulled, hair shorn, and put through state-run conversion therapy.

This is the cruelty of abandoning incarcerated trans people.

Federal Court Rules In Favor of Forcibly Detransitioning Transgender Inmates In Florida
Incarcerated transgender people were a major topic of debate in the 2024 elections. Now, a judge ruling on a Florida policy shows how cruel abandoning trans people in prison can be.

After attending a session on the "college novel" at #ashe2024 #cahep, I'm thinking of assigning one to my EdD Capstone course. Have been reading "The Art of Fielding" and enjoying it so much. The session opened a whole new genre to me! Thanks @brownm.bsky.social and colleagues! <3

One year my youngest (5 or 6 at the time) asked Santa for a "piece of cheese"
My mom works with 5-year-olds and some absolute gems have been on their wish lists this year: "rectangles of wood" (for building things, it was determined), a vending machine, and...pencils.

Cis mom with gender non-conforming kids. I will vote, call, speak, teach... whatever it takes.
Why? My kids are beloved, brilliant, funny, loving humans who deserve the full experience of life. (Just like every kid does... Just like every person does.)
My guess is that a lot of trans people will be feeling a ton of stress and worry over SCOTUS today.

If you are a cis person, quote this and say why you support trans people and what you are willing to do to support us if the government comes for us.

The risks for those who are not allowed gender-affirming care far outweigh the risks for those who are given GAC and then later regret it (representing a very small % of individuals who receive GAC). Letting doctors, parents, and patients make decisions is key in this decision!
This lawyer is really doing a solid job (IMO) speaking clearly about trans* folks and their identities. I appreciate the judges questions so far. (I'm still not optimistic about the outcome, but at least the questions are informed and seem appropriate.)

I just ran into the main plaintiff and their family in the hallway of the Supreme Court in the skrimetti case today, and we all hugged and now I’m in tears in the press room.

I thanked them profusely.

Trans people deserve equal protection. We deserve to live like anyone else.
