NHS England has neglected the fact that the increase in cash terms includes payments to PCNs
These payments aren’t available for GP practices to use
Stripping this away, practices have had real terms cuts in income
Fewer GPs employed, practices closing and many more considering closures or cut backs
General practice funding saw 2.5% drop in real terms after Covid
General practice in England saw a real-terms drop of 2.5% in total funding after the Covid pandemic, despite increases to PCN investment.

In the week that MPs vote on assisted dying, please - please - can we all agree & act on the fact that the time to end the woeful underfunding of NHS palliative care is now?

If we truly cared about dying people, we wouldn’t neglect their final days.

5 years ago I left rounds to join my wife for our 6 month anatomy scan. It was pretty exciting!

Then it wasn’t. Then it was horrible. We ended the pregnancy after discovering a defect incompatible with life, which threatened my wife’s health.

General Practice is struggling to deliver for patients.

Yet, we are the first port of call for 1.4 million patients a day.

We have fewer GPs and practices.

Without support for NI hike, like rest of #NHS has, GP practices are at risk of closing. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

A doctor who represents 300 GP practices says many would be forced to cut back on staffing or close.

On call all day in #TeamGP .

Got a great team serving our patients, from reception to clinical to management.

We are deeply rooted in our communities. But, that’s at risk of being torn away with ongoing lack of support for General Practice.

Latest being lack of NI increase support.

We already have 1000 fewer GP practices & 300 more patients per GP in the last 10 yrs.

Core General Practice receives ~6% of #NHS budget despite >30 million patient contacts a month. Used to be ~9%.

Lack of support for NI will accelerate the break up of local, community based health centres.

Motion has fallen.

So, additional lay member will not be added to RCGP Trustee board.

Many passionate speakers from both sides.

I shared my views against the motion.

Great to be part of my professional home & be able to speak for members. Thank you to College leaders.
RCGP AGM starts in less than 10 mins.

Please join if you are a member.

Particular concern is Special Resolution 4 which seeks to increase the number of appointed lay members to the Trustee Board.

Majority of those who elected me to RCGP Council have asked that we reject this motion.

Budget & overall share of #NHS funding has been shrinking despite nearly 20% more activity.
