Happy NHMRC “Not For Further Consideration” Day for all those who celebrate.

More than 80% of submitted grants will not be funded. If you missed out, you’re in the majority!

Scientists, academics, researchers: We’re excited to share that @altmetric.com is now tracking mentions of your research on Bluesky! 🧪
There are already many articles for which there is more attention on Bluesky than on other comparable micro-blogging sites, meaning the academic community and the general public have clearly adopted Bluesky as one of its core places to disseminate and discuss new research.

A Place of Joy.

It's that time of year when most of the NHMRC / MRFF grants are submitted, and time for a period of reflection before trying again next year.

Let's take a quick look at the odds of success...

Remember - most applicants are serious researchers, many have PhDs and impressive track records.

For those who regularly write large grant applications, what is your "secret ingredient"?

- chocolate?
- coffee?
- good clean living?

Mine varies between dark chocolate bullets and peanut M&Ms

It takes a system to save a life in cardiac arrest. I’m proud to have played a small part in this paper in The MJA which shows how survival has incrementally improved in Victoria over 25 years and highlights the value of a registry. If you don’t measure, you can’t improve 🤓 🚑
This is what happens when you take a whole of organisation approach to improving cardiac arrest outcomes. Kudos to the team at Ambulance Victoria, in particular all the responders and researchers out there every day making this a reality

How common is this phenomenon?

Child presents to ED with fever and tachycardia. Appears comfortable.

**needs** treatment for tachycardia because vital signs are "abnormal" and the child is "breaching" the local early warning tool

Given TWO different antipyretics (usually paracetamol + ibuprofen)

Honey, stop what you're doing, new hyponatremia research just dropped!

What's it say?

It looks like slow correction is associated with worse outcomes, like death and length of stay!

Was it just a small study?

No, it was a meta-analysis of almost 12,000 patients!

Correction Rates and Clinical Outcomes in Hospitalized Adults With Severe Hyponatremia
This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluates the association of sodium correction rates with mortality among hospitalized adults with severe hyponatremia.
