The 1823 Demerara Rebellion broke out at Plantation Success, led by a cooper named Jack Gladstone; named after the plantation owner John Gladstone.

John Gladstone was father to Prime Minister William Gladstone, who put compensation in his father's pocket so he could inherit it.

1. The Haitian Revolution ended slavery you just did the administration. You didn’t save us, we violently resisted and you had no choice
2. The British government compensated slave owners for the loss of their "property"
3. You can’t take credit for “ending” something you started

I have seen the letters she signed supporting transphobic causes, I have seen her organisations oppose trans people's civil rights.

As others have noted, Stephenson's transphobia did tend to surface when open letters opposing e.g. GRA reform circulated.

I am saying this as someone who was *also* very active in feminist politics in Coventry around the same time. Stephenson had to keep something of a lid on her transphobic views as they were not widely welcome within feminist organisations and meetings in Coventry.

5/ The answer is not thicker skin, my friends. It’s also not keep calm and carry on. I hope you can speak out against the prejudice. I hope you can keep stating how ridiculous it is to blame immigrants for poverty and bad services. I hope you can be there to support those broken by such hostility.
