Enthusiastically attempting to understand why fungi cause allergy. Still trying to dabble with running…

Check out our latest preprint, tracking fungal spores we were able to make some fascinating insights on how dendritic cells cause #fungal allergy. #immunosky.

Huge thanks to our awesome collaborators who helped with this study!

Mgl2+ cDC2 triggering of fungal allergic inflammation depends on a spore induced glycolytic shift fuelled by local availability of glucose
Fungal spores are a major cause of severe asthmatic disease. However, the precise events that cause individuals to become sensitised to spores are poorly understood. Mgl2+ type 2 conventional dendriti...

After a period of silence, delighted to share our latest work has come out as a pre print. Check it out. Huge thanks to the amazing efforts of co-authors and most importantly the generosity of the patients in providing samples. www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1...
Activation status of immune cells in the airway is a defining feature of severe fungal asthma.
Airborne fungi are potent inducers of respiratory disease and cause the debilitating conditions severe asthma with fungal sensitisation (SAFS) and allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA). Howev...

Excited to see this finally out!! We found IL-2 made by CD301b+ DCs critical for the Th2 fate decision of CD4T cells and skewing them away from the Tfh fate. They also seem to use their own CD25 to direct IL-2 to the cognate clone.

CD301b+ dendritic cell-derived IL-2 dictates CD4+ T helper cell differentiation - Nature Communications
A subset of migratory type 2 conventional dendritic cells marked by CD301b expression (CD301b+DC), are required specifically for the development of Th2 cells. Here authors show that at the mechanistic...

Out today - a new role for MAIT cells. We've shown MAIT cells are antibacterial; antiviral; and promote tissue repair. In this paper from our group we show MAIT cells are recruited and activated to protect tissues in sterile lung injury, and potentially in IPF - enjoy!

Completely agree @profandrewmac.bsky.social! A pleasure to work with wonderful colleagues at several institutions including @mrccmm.bsky.social, @lydiabeckeriii.bsky.social and @uoe-eid.bsky.social. Fungi are major causes of asthma but why our immune cells do this is poorly understood.

Check it out if you have ever wondered how fungal spore growth controls how dendritic cells (clearly THE best immune cell) trigger inflammation that causes asthma...
