Finally finished Death Stranding 2 this week. Once again, Kojima just *gets* it. The game does so much that I’ll be thinking about it for a long time that I plan to write about and will probably share here. In the meantime: you can read my (spoiler-free) review here: backloggd.com/u/droopypets...

Finished the first 2 episodes of Death Stranding 2 and while I’ve got lots of thoughts about a lot of it, one thing that has really stuck with me is that there are two moments in that first episode that seem to me to be a direct response to specific American political issues and it’s fascinating.

Very glad I’ve mostly avoided a lot of the trailers. DS 1 is one of my favorite games of all time, but I will admit that The Story is the probably the weakest part. I’m only a couple hours in but I can see that is probably not the case here and I’m excited to experience it.
It can't be overstated that if you want to steer clear of major Death Stranding 2 spoilers do NOT watch the final trailer they just put up, and also avoid having watched Literally Any Trailer For Death Stranding 2

A sort of inverse to this that is equally annoying to me is when people claim that a very good movie is Bad because it is different than the supplementary material or treats it in a way they don’t expect or like.
one of the most incomprehensible to me things that a lot of people appear to believe about pop culture is that a bad movie can be made good if its supplementary material is good, or that it is somehow OK to make a movie that demands you to watch hours of other material to make sense

I guess I can appreciate that they’re being pretty up front about what you are getting in the box, but man, it really just makes an already bad case design look horrendous.

Wow. Fantastic piece by @leadergrev.bsky.social here. Puts into words a lot of issues I have with a lot of games coverage/discourse and try to avoid a lot of it in favor of smaller creators and writers. If you are interested in games at all, please read.

Absolutely agree. One of the things that made TLOU great imo is the ending. Especially since it came out during a time when “player choice” was such a hot topic. Bucking the current trend of the day and FORCING the player to make the controversial “choice” is inherently more interesting.
“I believe Joel was right,” The Last of Us' Neil Druckmann admits. “If I were in Joel's position, I hope I would be able to do what he did." bit.ly/42nJY9s

Cant stop thinking about the new episode of Severance. Been hooked since I first watched it a couple years ago and only continues to get better. I think it’s well on its way to becoming one of my favorite pieces of art ever.
