Been re-reading Alasdair Gray's work in what little spare time I have and just... man. No one else like him. Incredible stuff.

Struggling a LOT with writers block the past few days. Like, my brain is absolutely bursting with ideas that I'm nonetheless having trouble putting on the page. I guess it's because, well, this is my job, but it does make me feel quite hopeless at times. Just gotta push through I guess, it'll come.

If you want an Embrace game with a soundtrack that's actually good, Humanity remains criminally slept on. Music is like Aphex Twin by way of Steve Reich

So I guess the embargo is up on Lumines Arise. It's pretty neat—as someone who isn't used to Lumines' ruleset, it's unbelievably challenging.

A personal hurdle, however, was that moreso than Tetris Effect, I thought that so much of the soundtrack was absolute horseshit lol

Maaaaan, RIP to Tatsuya Nakadai. Just checked his Wikipedia recently and was pleasantly surprised to find him still kicking then. Imagine having as many legendary credits as this guy, as well as going up against Mifune in maybe the most influential chanbara scene ever filmed. What a legend

Since I got rid of Spotify I've been buying more music and I really want to get back into using an iPod. Apparently modding a Mini is super easy but of all the vids I've watched a) none of them just list out what you need and b) all of them frequently say "DON'T DO THIS OR YOU'LL HAVE A PAPERWEIGHT"

going on twitter now is like the dark world part of link to the past, where the shape of things is roughly the same only now instead of the friendly villagers there's some demihuman freak snarling at you going "welcome to the village of assholes!! we hate you!!" also the trees shoot bombs now

I trust vanishingly few sponsorship offers coming in nowadays as being anywhere close to legitimate, but this has really started to feel like a dead giveaway.
The last few years of getting a zillion "great" offers for "we know what's holding you back on youtube book a meeting now" or "do a video and we'll give you $2 every time someone installs raid shadow legends" has led me to a single finding: anyone with a .gg domain is probably running scams.

Great read. Seems like lots of people have that one game like this, they get it out of their system, then the whole "compulsion but less predatory" thing becomes less appealing. I lost a ton of time to Vampire Survivors so I didn't let Balatro grab me in the same way. I just full-on avoided BALLxPIT
NEW POST: I played BALLxPIT. I loved BALLxPIT. But whether an attempt to upcycle a rapidly tired genre or an accidental accoutrement to the problems found within, Kenny Sun & Friends have created something brilliant that I nonetheless struggle to champion:
Every good bit of game design in BALLxPIT (and why I'm loathe to recommend it)
Is a series of good ideas enough to overcome an unconsciously problematic core?
