Award-winning historian. Professor Emerita. Author of four books. Another in the hopper. My share of op-eds in NYT, WaPo, CNN, Time, & Smithsonian Magazine.
Have I missed anything today? Another absurdity coming from the WH? Maybe there's some good news somewhere that I need to know about.

Good example of how an acronym can dehumanize consequences and mask what’s going on. Syntactically, “Diversity slayer,” “equity slayer,” or “inclusion slayer” sounds weird. They aren’t “slaying” these things; they’re promoting and supporting their opposites: segregation, unfairness, and exclusion.

Heather Ann Thompson’s latest on the Bernie Goetz shootings of 1984 and the untold story of the Bronx boys he shot—like her Pulitzer Prize winning Blood in the Water, it reads like a novel, a page turner. It’s called Fear and Fury.
Ok BlueSky: what are your favorite history books in terms of sheer page-turning, narrative propulsion? Thinking along the line of Killers of the Flower Moon, etc. Nonfiction chronicles that read like novels or movies.

Here in Charlotte: Do yourself a favor and don’t read the comments on local news about ICE & border patrol. You’ll swiftly learn how xenophobic & racist your neighbors are.

Re: Epstein files. Release them. Let everyone who was involved--politicians, academics, businessmen, etc.--get their just desserts. None of them should be protected for what they did.

I live here and can promise that this is totally unnecessary. I’m very concerned for the neighbors in my community who are going to get targeted for their skin color to meet racist quotas.

The Heritage Foundation’s racism knows no bounds.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

Shame on Condé Nast. I hope these staffers find a place for their talents--free from being silenced.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.
