Canada is rich in precious minerals, ag products, oil, technology and health innovations. Canada can survive on its own. Can USA?

Last Day of the First Month of 2025 - so how was the New Year thus far? Not encouraging at all, or rather, very disappointing. As a society, we have become reactive than proactive, regressive than progressive, lethargic than energetic, complacent than decent, numb and dumb than alert and vigilant.

Jan 30 - The country where cruelty knows no limits today prides itself as the land of the free and home of the brave - time to ask freedom for whom and bravery for what? America must not be the house of smoke and mirage - it’s amazing what’s happening in America today can only happen in Afghanistan

Jan 29, ‘25 - terrible news from the south of Canada - citizenship, deportation, Medicaid, fed employees. The list will grow longer as January ends. We all knew this would be coming, but are shocked when the nail hits the head. I am waiting for Feb 1 - 25% tariff on imports from Canada. Interesting

Jan 24 ‘25 - some Republicans want a constitutional amendment to allow for DJT to have a third term. I say they should take one more step and declare him President for Life. When dictators and monarchs elsewhere have fallen by the wayside it’s amazing to see the reverse in America. God save the USA!

Day 23 - Year 2025 is not new anymore. What’s old is new again and what’s new is old. It was old - the bashing of immigrants - most Americans should look themselves in the mirror - can they imagine America without the immigrants? New - the skeptical Environmentalists rise again - that’s old news!

So we saw what happened yesterday - insurrectionists are pardoned, and a man gives a Hitler salute. That is a prelude what is to come. Brace yourself, the ride is going to be much rougher. I continue to be amazed in disbelief that this happened in America to America, its people spoke loud and clear.

Jan 20 - a day not worth talking about but reflecting on the perils of democracy. America demonstrated that a convicted felony is not a deal breaker for becoming its president. Morality, honesty and intellect are not required for the most important job in America! I am amazed in disbelief!

Going to Brampton, giving a talk at an event on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Canada-Nepal relations. I am an academic so will talk space, place and the environment- that is what most geographers do - and somehow relate to the event’s main theme.
