As Ukraine marks Holodomor Remembrance Day, mourning millions of victims of Stalin's genocidal famine, it feels as though the Trump administration is happy to give Putin another chance to finish off what Stalin started. Europe should do everything in its power to help Ukraine & defeat Russia.

This is what happens when you put a preening, lazy, populist, dilettante in charge of a country.

Johnson was completely out of his depth and more concerned with his pathetic perceived popularity than leading this country through the greatest crisis since 1939.

It is not ‘about me’. I live safe in a warm house and have two global north citizenships.

But I grew up with a parent with a suitcase of all the documents he might ever need tucked under his bed.

With the 80th anniversary of the Nuremberg Trials approaching, this is a valuable resource for teachers bringing the IMT legacy into the classroom.
How did the Allies try & punish Nazi war criminals?
What was the reaction from the British public?
& why have other trials been largely overlooked?

Have been thinking about “immigration has been tearing this country apart.” Surely I’m not the only person to think that it isn’t true, but inflamed rhetoric about immigration by politicians is what is tearing this country apart and so statements like that only makes it worse.

Refugees can take their wedding ring and a watch, but other jewellery was forfeit to the state.

Either on leaving, or on relatives’ deportation a couple of years later.

Apropos nothing much, in current UK politics…

Instructions for refugees leaving Nazi Germany, 1939

There were many conditions to be met (see Werner Weissenberg’s page, Kitchener camp website, for more:

There were strict limits on money and valuables, and further restrictions & taxes on arrival.
