Canada lost 27BN to multinational corporations cheating on tax from 2016 to 2021. Tax records revealing which corporations cheated exist, but have been kept from the public due to a US-backed global gag order. #NameTheTaxCheaters #TaxJustice2025

Possible causes of your problems. It’s a diagram that (sadly) still seems relevant in 2025, so reposting a year and a bit on.

“… mixed-use developments generate about one-third less vehicle miles traveled than conventional developments, with up to an 80% reduction in certain regions. Over time, MXDs generate even fewer vehicle trips (about 50% less)…”

Do mixed-use developments optimize VMT and emissions reduction? Evidence from 36 regions
Mixed-use developments (MXDs) have dovetailed nicely as a development design strategy to lower VMT by concentrating diverse activities within walkable…

Great piece on the Welsh government’s 20mph policy by @willhaycardiff.bsky.social

“What is great about evidence based policy is that it has a wonderful habit of working”

Inspiration for England as DfT work on the promised road safety strategy.
Turns out the 20mph limit was great idea!
Two years on from the controversial policy, it's becoming increasingly clear that the doubters were wrong

Our new study shows how animal biodiversity loss is a climate problem: tropical forests recover far less carbon where seed dispersers have declined.

We’re not just losing forests – we’re losing their ability to regrow.

Reversing that trend could align biodiversity recovery with climate solutions.🧵

The world did not end when the bridge was closed for two years between 2015 & 17.
Twenty-four thousand pedestrians and cyclists use it daily; those numbers will only increase if motor vehicles are excluded.
Bonus: the bridge will need a lot less maintenance!
This would be a big improvement when walking with the kids

Agree with @tobywells.bsky.social that current layout is a poor use of space:

“Prince Street Bridge carries far more pedestrians and cyclists than it does people in private motor vehicles, but they’re squeezed into a much smaller space”
Busy bridge over Bristol harbour could close to cars
Councillors were split on whether the closure would be a good idea
