Why is no one saying - if Thune accepts Schumer’s one year offer, the shutdown is done. Period. It’s that simple.

Correct. What Musk has done since January is openly evil. The death toll will be incalculable. I fail to understand how he is still the head of any company, any part of the government, invited to any gathering... there is no proper word in English for someone who knowingly causes the deaths of kids.
Much of what DOGE is doing is illegal. Much of it will create long-term and lasting damage to America. This is the clearest example of an action that was illegal, anti-democratic, but also sped past any moral grey zones to being deeply evil.
