First Sunday in Advent so, as I used to do over in *the other place*, here’s a mudlarking-themed calendar that’ll be posted daily till the 24th🎄

Day 1: handful of lead seals, used in Europe from 13th-19thC, usually attached to cloth as a means of quality control, ID & to ensure tax had been paid 1/
A range of lead cloth seals, from the 17th to 19th centuries, found on the river Thames. These would have been usually attached to cloth and stamped with a mark to ID the maker, as a means of quality control and to ensure tax had been paid.
