Glad you found something good!

Yeah I think there are examples of the importance it can have with connecting people in marginalized communities but overall I don’t feel like it’s a daily positive for my mental health.

Yeah it seems nearly impossible to get a moments rest from that stuff now. And I think that stuff really takes over social media.

Am I off base here or has anyone else felt this?

I check bsky 20 times a day for 5 seconds at a time just to see if I have notifications, it's exhausting but it feels like an addiction that I've rationalized as important.

After covid and the last 10 years of politics I feel that social media has often been a tool to make us suspicious of other humans, but I want to build trust in others. This idea that we need to constantly be marketing to folks or else they won't care aids aids that suspicion.
November 8, 2025 at 7:21 PM
I'd rather not bother people and trust that the folks who think what I am doing is important will check in from time to time and not forget me. I think social media has told us not to trust other humans, and that we have to constantly badger them to "make it" in the world. I just don't believe that.
November 8, 2025 at 7:21 PM
In the same vein I don't think everybody needs/wants what Dollar Country offers, but I think it is and can be important to many. This all comes into play because trying to reach the folks who will connect with it involves getting in front of many who won't.

Because of this idea there are way too many brands and people trying to get all of our attentions but in general I don't think we need or want the vast majority of things they are suggesting we need or want. Even with a well manicured feed I still see a lot of things that are unimportant to me.
November 8, 2025 at 7:21 PM
I've been taught the idea that if I'm not in your feed then you will completely forget Dollar Country exists, and so to be someone doing something in 2025 you have to constantly be in people's feeds even if it's just sharing nonsense. That makes me feel bad and stressed.

As a non profit business runner, archivist, record collector, and general guy-who-made-his-own-job, I feel a lot of pressure to be sharing my current thoughts and/or actions. I feel that is what's expected of me and anyone else who has any kind of "brand."

As american as thanksgiving

That's why not having the updates on helps me. I'll put bids on 20 things and then not check ebay for a week. It's the ones that got away that always cause me emotions, so I try to bid on them early enough that I forget what got away.
November 6, 2025 at 12:52 AM
I usually put a really high bid on those just in case

I'm glad that kind of music has finally started getting it's due. For a long time hard rock 45s were kind of seen as boring.
