One of my favorite things about music is that I can listen to something I don't like initially and over more time with it I can learn to appreciate it. I didn't used to like country gospel, but now I do.

I recently learned that doing donuts in a car is called "whipping shitties" by some people in the northern USA. Can anyone corroborate this?

So far the problem with my bummer xmas mix is that there are too many songs about christmas in vietnam. Not enough for a whole mix, but I can't let them take over the whole thing.

This mix was made a couple years ago, and I'm going to make a new one this year because somehow really sad xmas songs just find their way to me. I just found one about how a blind girl can't see how beautiful her christmas lights are. Why did someone make this song? No clue, but I'm glad they did.
Just put a Bummer Xmas Mix up on the patreon. It's got christmas in jail, vietnam, and other places.

Check it out at the link!

My kid turns two soon. If there's one thing I've learned from having a baby it's that your brain turns to nearly useless mush for at least a year and it's OK to not remember plans, say no to things, not be able to get everything done, and generally be a scatter brained zombie for a while.

Just uploaded this audio the database of Jim Birdwell and the Traveling Texans. Two really great tunes that have a great sound. Lord I Tried is an absolutely brutal song about a car accident.

This is the sticker equivalent of wearing your band's shirt at your own gig.

@phonicunderground.bsky.social asked me about these discs they found yesterday and I did some sleuthing and found some interesting stuff.

These are instantaneous discs, which is the broad classification of discs that were not pressed, but cut in real time, often on an at-home lathe machine. --->
Anyone know anything about these Echo discs? I think they are from the late 1910s to early 20s. They are 6 inch discs made for instant recordings. Zinc coated I think.

One of the challenges of researching rural gospel music is that the names of the groups are often reused. Today I'm researching a group called The Gospel Four. There are 12 acts on discogs with that name, and nevermind the fact that at times they had 4 or 5 or 6 members.

Also I need to figure out how to make some more money with DC so that I can afford daycare. It's a crazy world.
Dropped the kid off at full time day care for the first time and I'm going to have 8 uninterrupted hours to work on Dollar Country for the first time in 2 years (that felt like 10 years) and it feels good but also confusing.

I also made these stickers because I've seen Some Kind Of Monster maybe 50 times and I love it so much.

I printed a bunch of the Echobrain sticker too. They've just been sitting in my basement.

I actually made the Plain, Simple Garak sticker if anyone wants one! I just don't put them up on the DC store because they don't really fit and I never knew what to do with them.
Sometimes I design stickers about non-country things just as a treat. Here's a few deep space 9 ones I made.
