noticing a strong theme of our times is powerful people convincing themselves that they have to be perceived as being terrible people by others for the sake of the greater good, without understanding that this actually just makes them terrible people. a sort of false nobility complex.

2019 Ian writes a 3000 word blog post about this clip. What a wild moment to witness.
Reporter: Are you affirming that you think the president is a fascist?

Mamdani: I've spoken about --

Trump: Just say yes, it's easier than explaining.

Laughing at Donald Trump saying he'd definitely feel comfortable living in Zohran Mamdani's New York on the same day that half the consultant brain-poisoned Democratic party voted to condemn socialism

People spend a lot of time wondering why the left is worse at using independent media to control the national narrative.

A useful exercise is to ask why the left is also worse at selling snake oil and pyramid schemes, because I think the reasons are basically exactly the same.

It was pointed out at work today that many hospitals in the US get many of their supplies from China, and so are suddenly looking at potentially being charged twice as much for those supplies as the trade war continues. Not great!

This week has been so weird. Every day is:

Wake up, check news: China imposes 1B percent tariff in response to US 2B percent tariff. Farmers are sowing fields with their own tears. US dollar projected to be worth less than toilet paper in three weeks.

One hour later, markets open: +1.2%🟢

Denver loves @aoc.bsky.social and @sanders.senate.gov! Lucky to have them here today.
Tonight an unbelievable **34,000 people** gathered for our Denver rally to take on billionaires and win our country back.

This was the largest political gathering in Denver since Obama in 2008.

Also bigger than the 2024 DNC.

And the largest ever rally in Bernie’s career (and obviously, mine too).

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

So many dems are missing the moment in an unbelievable way. It's like the kid who dreams of being at bat in the bottom of the 9th, bases loaded.. and then trying to draw a walk. Maybe thinking about a bunt.

The moment has narrative power. Stakes are there. They're just not interested in swinging.
