As record heat continues to impact communities across the nation, this is what is in that proposed budget: 🌡️

"With this termination, NOAA will no longer support the National Integrated Heat Health Information System" (aka NIHHIS or heat[dot]gov)

1000 or so+ (at least) National Weather Service/NOAA employees took early retirement today alone with more likely. NWS offices in many cases were already understaffed and services are being cut. Mark this day. So many implications....

Inspired by my earlier thoughts today, a childhood bee sting, and something a colleague Paul Walsh said, my weekend thoughts in Forbes dot com offers advice for aspiring scientists right now. And perhaps for seasoned ones too.

For the first time in human history -- not just in recorded history, but in the 3+ million year existence of modern humans -- carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere has just breached 430 parts per million.

The mass firing of both new hires and recently promoted senior staff within #NOAA, including mission-critical and life-saving roles at the National Weather Service (#NWS), is profoundly alarming.

Today, the Trump administration fired ~1,800 federal civil servant employees of NOAA and the National Weather Service – 15% of its workforce.

This reckless action makes all Americans less safe and deals a crushing blow to one of the premier scientific organizations in the world.

Horribly shameful.
Did you know that the National Weather Service is the most-loved part of our federal government? Donald Trump and Elon Musk want to cut it by 50%.

That needs to be the message from congressional Democrats right now.

I was just told that I have to remove “climate” from the title of an ongoing grant if I want to keep it. And publications from that grant cannot include “climate” and other forbidden words. I can’t believe I’m writing this from the United States of America. #AcademicSky
Just received an email saying that it's not advisable to include the following words in future applications for research funding to the US DOT. Here we are.
